Road Encroachment Permit Approval
Anyone desiring to do work within the public right-of-way using the Road Encroachment Permit Application. The public right-of-way is an area that encompasses the road and portions of land on both sides of the road, which may include curbs, drainage ditches, sidewalks, street signs, and utilities. The width of the County right-of-way will vary based on the type and age of the road. The width of the right-of-way can be found by checking your plat or survey.
Road Encroachment for Utility Installations Permit Approval
Anyone desiring to do work within the public right-of-way must obtain approval from the Oldham County Engineer using the Road Encroachment for Utility Installations Permit Application. The County right-of-way is an area that encompasses the road and portions of land on both sides of the road, which may include curbs, drainage ditches, sidewalks, street signs, and utilities. The width of the County right-of-way will vary based on the type and age of the road. The width of the right-of-way can be found by checking your plat or survey. If located in the County right-of-way, work that will require a Road Encroachment for Utility Installations Permit includes, but is not limited to:
1) Installing, maintaining, or removing any utility (i.e., electric, water, gas, sanitary, cable, telephone, fiber optic, etc.),
2) Installing, maintaining, or removing a sidewalk,
3) Planting, maintaining, or removing trees and bushes,
4) Installing, maintaining, altering, or removing stormwater drainage system items (i.e., ditches, culverts, headwalls, catch basins, etc.),
5) Installing, maintaining, or removing a sign.
Oldham County Road Construction, Repair, and Maintenance
The Oldham County Engineer's Office oversees the construction, inspection, and maintenance of Oldham County infrastructure including, but not limited to, roads, bridges, signage, etc. The Oldham County Engineer's Office and the Oldham County Road Department are the appropriate offices for requesting repairs or maintenance to Oldham County right-of-way, roads, shoulders, curb and gutter, etc.
Accepting Private Rural and/or Subdivision Roads into the County
Individuals, Groups, or Homeowners Associations that desire to have their roadways accepted should follow the Procedure for Accepting Private Rural and/or Subdivision Roads into the Oldham County Road Maintenance System.
